Astana cracks down on illegal waste with drones and AI cameras
Astana has stepped up efforts to combat illegal waste disposal and sanitation violations. Using advanced cameras, drones, and regular patrols, authorities are cracking down on offenses across the city. Since January, nearly 19,000 breaches of sanitation rules have been recorded. The police in Astana are relying on modern technology to enforce public order and cleanliness. Surveillance cameras and drones now monitor areas where waste is often dumped illegally. These tools help detect violations, particularly near construction sites, where offenses are most frequent.
Nearly 400 reports of illegal waste disposal outside designated areas have already been sent to the city’s Department of Ecology. Those caught breaking sanitation rules face administrative penalties. The crackdown is part of Astana’s involvement in Clean Kazakhstan (Taza Qazaqstan), a nationwide campaign promoting environmental responsibility.
Alongside technology, authorities are working with local communities and eco-activists. Regular raids and patrols take place to ensure compliance with sanitation laws. Officials stress that keeping the city clean is a shared duty for all residents. The combined use of digital monitoring, patrols, and public cooperation aims to reduce illegal dumping in Astana. With stricter enforcement and community involvement, the city expects fewer violations in the coming months. The campaign also aligns with broader national efforts to improve environmental standards.
