Andrew Robinson's journey from Dirty Harry villain to Star Trek icon at 84

Andrew Robinson, best known for his chilling role as the Scorpio Killer in Dirty Harry, was spotted running errands in Los Angeles on Thursday. At 84, the actor appeared energetic and approachable, a far cry from the sinister characters he once portrayed on screen. Robinson’s breakout role came in 1971 when he landed the part of the Scorpio Killer after a brief meeting with Clint Eastwood. To prepare, he studied film noir and crafted a backstory for the character, imagining a military past. The performance earned him recognition but also led to real-life consequences—he received death threats from unsettled viewers.

After *Dirty Harry*, Robinson found it difficult to shake off the villain label. He took on the role of Frank Ryan in the soap opera *Ryan’s Hope* from 1976 to 1978, but typecasting remained a challenge. Despite this, he never expressed concern about being pigeonholed, even as darker roles followed. Years later, Robinson won over a new generation of fans as Elim Garak, the enigmatic tailor and spy, in *Star Trek: Deep Space Nine*. The character became one of his most beloved, proving his range beyond menacing antagonists. In 2024, he reprised the role in *Star Trek: Lower Decks*, marking a return to the franchise that had cemented his place in sci-fi history.

From a feared villain in Dirty Harry to a fan-favourite in Star Trek, Robinson’s career has spanned decades and genres. His recent appearance in LA shows no signs of slowing down, as he continues to take on new projects well into his eighties.
