Thick Fog Reported in Parts of Almaty. Eyewitness Photos
Almaty braces for days of thick fog and shifting winter weather
Eyewitnesses say the fog is particularly dense in the lower part of the city—around the Sayran microdistrict and nearby streets.
Background: Fog is a weather phenomenon in which tiny water droplets form near the ground, reducing visibility to one kilometer or less. It occurs when moist air cools, most often under light winds and temperature inversions. In cities, fog frequently develops in low-lying areas and during nighttime or early morning hours.
Meanwhile, the upper parts of Almaty remain clear, with no fog.
