Yakutsk's Ice Festival Brings Beloved Cartoon Characters to Life in Frozen Glory

Yakutsk's Ice Festival Brings Beloved Cartoon Characters to Life in Frozen Glory

YAKUTIA.INFO. The "Tooku Invites Friends: Soyuzmultfilm in Yakutia" Ice Sculpture Festival will take place in Yakutsk from February 3 to 7, marking part of the celebrations for the 90th anniversary of the legendary Soyuzmultfilm animation studio. The event is organized jointly by the studio, the Orion company, the NWK Sakha TV channel, and the Yakutia Development Corporation, according to the corporation's press service.

The festival's main venue will be Lake Saisary, nestled in the scenic Saidar Park. Participants will bring to life iconic animated characters in ice, including Umka the Polar Bear, Winnie the Pooh, Karlsson, the characters from Prostokvashino, and the Wolf and Hare from Nu, Pogodi! All sculptures must stand at least 3.5 meters tall.

Winners will be selected based on the following criteria: - Craftsmanship - Creativity - Completion of the character's image

The prize fund is distributed as follows: - First place: 200,000 rubles - Second place: 150,000 rubles - Third place: 100,000 rubles

All other participants will receive a symbolic award.

We are especially honored that the ice sculpture festival is taking place in Yakutia—a region with a unique culture and strong artistic traditions," said Boris Mashkovtsev, the studio's general director. "We have long collaborated with Yakut animators and supported specialized education, so we are delighted to share our milestone with the republic's residents. I am confident that these iconic Russian animation characters, reimagined in ice, will be a true gift for the people and visitors of Yakutsk."
