Vietnam and India strengthen tech and education ties through high-level talks

Politburo member Nguyen Duy Ngoc recently visited India to explore deeper ties in technology and education. During his trip, he met with leaders from the Indian Institute of Technology Madras (IIT Madras) and the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI). The discussions focused on digital innovation, research partnerships, and future collaboration between Vietnam and India.

At IIT Madras, Ngoc highlighted the institute’s success in building a research university model closely linked with industry and innovation. He noted that the institution had produced 68 scientific publications with Vietnamese co-authors over the past six years. Currently, IIT Madras collaborates with around 18 Vietnamese higher education institutions.

The Vietnamese official also praised India’s progress in developing national digital infrastructure, particularly its platform-based approach to innovation and large-scale digital service delivery. UIDAI presented its Aadhaar system, which provides 12-digit identification numbers to over 1.4 billion people. The system supports electronic authentication, biometric verification, and seamless access to public services. Ngoc reaffirmed Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with IIT Madras and Indian partners. Key areas included deep technology, high-quality human resource training, and innovation ecosystem development. Both sides agreed to increase expert exchanges and share technical and policy expertise in the near future. IIT Madras proposed expanding collaboration through joint training programmes, faculty and student exchanges, and doctoral training. The institute is also exploring the possibility of establishing a presence or cooperative facility in Vietnam. These steps aim to deepen educational and research ties between the two countries.

The meetings marked a step toward closer Vietnam-India cooperation in technology and education. Future plans include joint programmes, expert exchanges, and potential facilities in Vietnam. Both nations aim to build on existing partnerships in research, digital infrastructure, and innovation.
