Vienna Airport reports record growth in Q1 2026 despite challenges
Flughafen Wien Aktiengesellschaft (VIAAY) has reported a strong start to 2026, with passenger numbers and profits both rising. The group’s first-quarter results show growth across key areas, despite challenges like rising fuel costs and regional instability. Overall traffic climbed by 5.3%, with some airports seeing particularly sharp increases. Malta and Košice led the way in passenger growth during the first three months of the year. Vienna also saw a modest rise of 1.6%, partly due to Air India’s refuelling stops adding transit passengers. The company’s total revenue jumped by 6.1%, helped by higher de-icing revenues compared to the same period in 2025.
Earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation, and amortisation (EBITDA) grew by 8.2%, while net profit matched the traffic increase with a 5.3% rise. Non-aviation activities, such as retail and services, also performed well. Despite ongoing uncertainty from the Middle East conflict and increased fuel expenses, VIAAY has reaffirmed its passenger and financial targets for the year. To counter rising costs, the group is rolling out efficiency measures and cost-saving initiatives in 2026.
The first quarter of 2026 has brought VIAAY higher traffic, stronger profits, and steady revenue growth. With cost controls in place and a confirmed outlook, the group aims to maintain its momentum. The results reflect resilience in both aviation and non-aviation operations.
