Tyrell Fortune stuns Marcin Tybura in UFC Seattle debut with dominant win

Marcin Tybura thought he'd defeated Tyrell Fortune at UFC Seattle, until Bruce Buffer realised his mistake.

The heavyweights met on the preliminary card of UFC Seattle on Saturday, with Florida native Fortune making his debut in Dana White's promotion against the Polish veteran.

Action was sparse, with Fortune, a two-time NJCAA National Champion wrestler at Clackamas Community College, controlling No. 9-ranked heavyweight Tybura on the canvas for more than five minutes.

When the bout concluded, MMA fans were comfortable that the 29-28, 29-28, 30-27 unanimous decision was clearly in Fortune's favour.

However, when Buffer read out Tybura's name as the winner, the crowd at Climate Pledge Arena were stunned.

Even Tybura looked slightly confused as he stood in the middle of the cage.

That was when Buffer realised he'd unfortunately read out the wrong winner in scenes very rarely seen in the UFC.

"We have a mistake here," UFC commentator Brendan Fitzgerald said as Fortune was called back to the Octagon.

"Mistake made in the announcement of Marcin Tybura, so we're going to get Tyrell Fortune back in there.

He didn't expect his moment to happen like this, so we apologise for that. Bruce Buffer back on the mic again."

Buffer then apologised for the 'mix-up' before announcing Fortune as the winner by unanimous decision.

Fortune, who has fought the majority of his career under the Bellator banner, now boasts an incredible professional MMA record of 18-3.

The 35-year-old will instantly enter the UFC heavyweight rankings when the list is updated on Monday.

Tybura, meanwhile, tasted his second consecutive defeat in White's promotion for the first time in seven years at UFC Seattle.
