Teenage Sprint Star Gout Gout Shatters 200m Age Record, Eyes Bolt's Legacy

A rising sprint star is making waves in athletics by closing in on Usain Bolt’s legendary times. Gout Gout, still a teenager, has set a new world record for his age group in the 200 metres. His performance suggests he could one day challenge Bolt’s long-standing dominance in the event. Gout recently smashed the world record for the fastest teenage 200m, finishing in 19.67 seconds. While Bolt’s unbeaten world record stands at 19.19 seconds, the young athlete is already outperforming Bolt’s times at the same age.

Analysis of his race shows a strong finish. From the 100m to 150m mark, Gout clocked 4.57 seconds—just 0.05 seconds slower than Bolt’s 4.52. Over the final 50 metres, he surged ahead with a time of 4.67 seconds, beating Bolt’s 4.75-second split in his record-breaking run. Yet, Gout’s reaction time and initial acceleration still lag behind Bolt’s. His first 100 metres took 10.43 seconds, compared to Bolt’s 9.92. Despite this, his top speed reached nearly 25 mph, and his ability to maintain velocity in the latter stages sets him apart. His coach, Di Sheppard, highlights the need to refine his starts. Meanwhile, Gout draws motivation from Bolt’s praise, who once compared him to a younger version of himself.

Gout’s record-breaking run marks him as a serious contender in sprinting. His late-race speed and endurance could push him closer to Bolt’s records with further improvements. For now, his focus remains on sharpening his explosive starts to match his finishing power.
