Khimik Voskresensk storms into VHL final after 4-2 semifinal victory
The VHL playoffs are nearing their climax as Khimik Voskresensk secured their place in the championship final. They defeated Metallurg Novokuznetsk 4-2 in Game 6 of their semifinal series. This season will see a new champion after Torpedo-Gorky, last year’s winner, was knocked out earlier in the playoffs. Khimik dominated the series, closing it out with a 4-2 victory. Goals came from Konstantin Lukin, Alexander Belyaev, Roman Rukavishnikov, and Nikita Kholodilin. Metallurg’s efforts fell short despite scores from Mark Verba and Dmitry Sheshin.
The other semifinal remains undecided. Yugra currently leads Neftyanik 3-2 in their best-of-seven matchup. Yugra will aim to finish the series on May 11 in Tatarstan.
The victor of that clash will advance to face Khimik in the championship final. Khimik’s 4-2 series win ensures their spot in the final. The remaining semifinal between Yugra and Neftyanik will determine their opponent. With Torpedo-Gorky already eliminated, a fresh name will lift the VHL trophy this year.
