Pop sensation Taylor Swift has announced her 12th studio album, titled The Life of a Showgirl. The news was revealed on Travis Kelce's podcast, New Heights, where Swift discussed details about the upcoming record.

The official website of Taylor Swift displayed a countdown leading to 12.12am ET (05:12 BST) on August 12, hinting at the imminent announcement. The website briefly crashed and returned with details of the album but did not provide an official release date. However, shortly after the announcement, the release date of October 3, 2025, was confirmed on Taylor Swift's official website and social media.

The Life of a Showgirl will mark the end of a long-running dispute over the ownership of Swift's early recordings. In 2019, her master recordings were sold to music executive Scooter Braun, but Swift has now bought back the master recordings of her first six albums from Shamrock Capital.

This album will be a significant milestone for Swift, who has won 14 Grammys, including a record four Album of the Year awards. Her last album, The Tortured Poets Department, broke Spotify records for the most streams in a day (300 million) and a week (1 billion), and made her the first artist to hold the entire top 14 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Swift has been quiet for several weeks prior to this announcement, after wrapping her Eras Tour in December 2024. The Eras Tour was the first tour in history to cross the $1 billion (€910 million) mark, earning Swift more than $2 billion (€1.82 billion) in total.

Fans of Swift can pre-order a limited edition vinyl and other physical formats, which are expected to be shipped before October 13. Taylor Swift's marketing team, Taylor Nation, posted a carousel of 12 images from her Eras Tour on Instagram with the caption, "Thinking about when she said 'See you next era ...'".

Swift's career has been marked by her resilience and determination, and The Life of a Showgirl is expected to be no exception. With her master recordings back in her possession, Swift is poised to continue her reign as one of the most influential artists of our time.
