Sunrisers Hyderabad storm into IPL playoffs with thrilling CSK victory

Sunrisers Hyderabad secured their place in the Indian Premier League playoffs with a five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings. The victory also ensured Gujarat Titans progressed, leaving just one playoff spot up for grabs. Royal Challengers Bengaluru had already booked their position earlier in the tournament. Chennai Super Kings posted a total of 180-7 in their 20 overs. Captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni missed the match due to a calf injury, leaving the side without their experienced finisher.

In response, Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down the target with contributions from Ishan Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. Kishan struck 70 off 47 balls, while Klaasen added a quickfire 47 from just 26 deliveries. Their partnership kept the team on track despite a few late wickets. With the ball, Pat Cummins led the attack, taking 3 wickets for 28 runs. Sakib Hussain and Eshan Malinga also chipped in, claiming figures of 2-34 and 1-26 respectively. The combined effort restricted Chennai’s momentum and set up the successful chase.

The win confirmed Sunrisers Hyderabad’s playoff berth and indirectly helped Gujarat Titans qualify as well. Only one spot now remains available in the knockout stage. Chennai Super Kings, meanwhile, will need to regroup after falling short in a high-scoring contest.
