Alexander Rossi's heavy crash halts Indianapolis 500 practice early

A heavy crash disrupted practice at Indianapolis Motor Speedway on Monday. Alexander Rossi hit the outside wall hard, causing significant damage to his car. The incident marked the first major crash of the month on the 2.5-mile oval track. Rossi’s accident occurred during a practice session ahead of the Indianapolis 500. After climbing out of the car, he appeared unsteady on his feet. Medical staff assessed him, but no serious injuries were reported.

The crash also involved Pato O’Ward and Romain Grosjean. Both drivers were checked at the medical facility and later released. At least four teams now face repairs to their primary cars before race day. Earlier in the session, Josef Newgarden set the fastest lap at 226.198 mph. However, the final 55 minutes of practice were cancelled due to rain. Rossi had qualified second for the race, his best-ever starting position, while O’Ward secured sixth, Conor Daly eighth, and Grosjean 24th.

The crash has left multiple teams with repair work ahead of the Indianapolis 500. Rossi’s strong qualifying position remains unchanged, but his car must be rebuilt before the race. Practice time was cut short, limiting further track action before the event.
