Sudden storm replaces heatwave with rain, wind, and flood risks this week

A sudden shift in weather is heading for the city after days of unusual heat. Temperatures have climbed to 29°C (84°F), but heavy rain and strong winds will replace the warmth by this evening. Authorities are already issuing safety warnings as conditions worsen. The change will begin today around 5 p.m., when rain moves in. Showers will continue almost daily until next Sunday, with only Monday expected to stay dry. The downpours will bring an end to the recent heatwave.

Winds will also pick up sharply, peaking at 20 m/s on May 24. Emergency responders have urged residents to stay clear of billboards, loose roofing, and other unstable structures. The gusts could make outdoor conditions hazardous for several days. Forecasters predict the wet and windy weather will last nearly all week. While temperatures will drop, the persistent rain may lead to localised flooding in low-lying areas.

The city’s brief spell of summer-like heat is over. Heavy rain, daily showers, and high winds will dominate the forecast until next weekend. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and avoid areas at risk from falling debris.
