Soldekk reopens with cozy upgrades and a fresh summer menu
Sunny Skies Herald the Start of Summer—And the Return of Soldekk
The bright, sunny weather is the perfect harbinger: summer is just around the corner. And with it, this Thursday marks the start of this year's season at Soldekk. "Temperatures are rising, the weather is stabilizing—it's time to get going!" says Dr. Nicolas Petrek, owner of the elevated rooftop venue, with palpable excitement.
More Comfortable Seating
"A little better every year" is the ambitious motto of Soldekk's operators. "We've made the pallet furniture even more comfortable, added new tables in the sand areas, and streamlined the payment process on-site," explains Petrek. The collaboration with Etage Eins—the event space in the same building—has also been further strengthened. Frank Hegele, managing director, adds: "We offer events like weddings and corporate celebrations the chance to dine and drink with us on Soldekk in a unique atmosphere, then move downstairs to Etage Eins for the party—complete with a DJ, dance floor, and midnight snacks. The concept has been extremely well received."
New Daydrinking Event
Speaking of events: This year will see the debut of a dedicated daydrinking series, designed to welcome guests in a relaxed setting on a regular basis. "The event will take place on Sundays," says Petrek. "We'll announce the first date very soon." Over the past few years, daydrinking has seen a noticeable surge in popularity—along with growing demand for alcohol-free alternatives. "This season, we'll be expanding our selection of wines and sparkling wines. We'll also be featuring special aperitifs and cocktails, including several alcohol-free options on our new menu," he explains.
When it comes to food, Soldekk will once again team up with trusted partners. Fresh baked goods from Klosterbäckerei will be turned into delicious Soldekk paninis, creamy ice cream will come from Scholz Icecream, and the beloved cakes will be supplied by Café BRUNS. Of course, the venue remains available for events—whether corporate gatherings, weddings, club meetings, or private parties—with flexible catering options, from à la carte dining to grill buffets.
"We also accommodate smaller gatherings of 10 to 40 people," confirms Hegele. "For larger celebrations of up to 200 guests, we have a dedicated, weatherproof event space—and if the weather takes an unexpected turn for the worse, Etage Eins serves as a backup location in the same building." That way, every event can go ahead as planned: under open skies with a view of the city in good weather, or indoors at Etage Eins if storms roll in.
"Another Place in Braunschweig"
Asked about his personal anticipation for the season, Petrek reflects: "For our entire team, the months on Soldekk are always something special. Up here, you experience the city in a completely different way—you feel firsthand how the weather and light shape the mood. It's almost as if, for a few summer months, another place in Braunschweig comes to life." He also shares a personal tradition: "Every summer, I try to stay late enough after work one evening to catch the sunrise. Since the sun rises directly over the city center from Soldekk's vantage point, it's always a breathtaking sight."
The 2024 Soldekk season kicks off this Thursday at 4 PM. Regular opening hours will be Monday to Friday from 4 PM and weekends/holidays from 2 PM. Reservations aren't required but are recommended for groups of four or more. For more details, visit www.soldekk.de.
