Sochi Braces for 8% Drop in May Holiday Tourists by 2026

Sochi is expecting fewer tourists during the May holidays in 2026. Local authorities predict around 330,000 visitors, down from last year’s figures. A mix of travel disruptions and a shorter break is blamed for the decline. In 2025, Sochi welcomed 357,000 tourists over the same holiday period. Next year’s forecast of 330,000 marks an 8% drop in visitor numbers.

Travel companies have already seen a sharp fall in demand. Bookings for hotels and tours in Sochi are down by 15% to 33%. Many travellers are put off by ongoing problems at the city’s airport. Flight delays and cancellations have become a persistent issue. These disruptions are particularly discouraging for those planning short trips. The shorter holiday weekend in 2026 is also reducing interest in travel.

The drop in bookings reflects both airport troubles and a less generous holiday schedule. With fewer arrivals expected, local businesses may face a quieter season. Sochi’s tourism sector is bracing for a noticeable dip in visitor activity.
