Säigilik-2026 Equestrian Tournament Celebrates Victory Day with Thrilling Kazakh Races

The Säigilik-2026 equestrian tournament brought together over 140 young riders for a celebration of Victory Day. Held at the Shengeldy hippodrome, the event showcased traditional Kazakh horse races and cultural performances. Local officials and spectators gathered to mark the occasion with sport and tradition.

The competition kicked off with tai-zharıs, a fast-paced 5-kilometre race. Riders then took part in kunan baige, a race for three-year-old horses, where Rayana Almasbek from Abai village stood out. She earned the 'Körermen Közaiymy' (Audience Favourite) prize, winning over the crowd with her skill.

The highlight of the day was the alaman baige, a gruelling 25-kilometre endurance race. Jockey Alizan from Konaev claimed victory and took home the top prize of 2.5 million tenge. Other winners shared a combined prize pool of 10 million tenge, rewarding their efforts across various races. After the races, the festival continued with traditional Kazakh games and live performances by local artists. Askhat Berdikhanov, the akim of Konaev, addressed participants and spectators, congratulating them on Victory Day. The event blended competitive sport with cultural pride, leaving a lasting impression on all who attended.

The tournament successfully promoted equestrian sports while honouring Kazakhstan’s heritage. Riders from Almaty Region and Konaev city demonstrated their talent in front of a supportive crowd. With prizes awarded and traditions celebrated, the event closed as a memorable tribute to Victory Day.
