Russian travelers shift focus as Aeroflot resumes Dubai flights by June 1
Russian travellers are showing strong demand for international flights as summer approaches. Aeroflot has announced plans to resume direct services to Dubai from June 1, while other destinations like Georgia, China, and Thailand are also gaining attention. Meanwhile, domestic hotspots remain popular despite some fluctuations in interest. The return of Aeroflot’s direct Dubai route on June 1 comes amid shifting preferences for international travel. While interest in the UAE has dipped due to political concerns, other destinations—including Georgia, China, Thailand, Vietnam, Uzbekistan, and Tunisia—are seeing rising demand. Industry experts Yevgeny Pronin and Anastasia Skvortsova highlighted this trend in recent reports.
Domestically, Sochi continues to attract visitors, though sales have softened slightly. This dip is partly linked to periodic restrictions at Nizhny Novgorod Airport, which have disrupted travel plans. The city’s popularity persists even with the frequent activation of the Kovyor contingency plan, designed to manage airport congestion. Elsewhere, tour operators note growing interest in Adygea, contrasting with a decline in bookings for Dagestan. Nizhny Novgorod’s travel boom is tied to new direct flights to Turkey and Egypt, making these routes more accessible. Pricing trends remain mixed, with some destinations becoming cheaper as competition among operators increases. The most sought-after domestic locations are Sochi, Kaliningrad, and Mineralnye Vody. These spots maintain steady demand, though local factors like airport limitations occasionally impact bookings.
Aeroflot’s Dubai route restart reflects broader shifts in Russian travel patterns. While political factors have reduced interest in the UAE, other international and domestic destinations are filling the gap. Operators continue to adjust prices and routes to meet changing demand ahead of the summer season.
