Ross County's relegation sealed after final-day drama at Raith Rovers

Ross County’s relegation to Scotland’s third tier was confirmed after a dramatic final-day defeat to Raith Rovers. The team needed both a win and a favour from Morton to avoid the drop but fell short in a chaotic match at Stark’s Park. The hosts started brightly, with Kieran Phillips opening the scoring in the 16th minute. He headed in a free-kick from Noah Chilvers to give Ross County an early lead. Trevor Carson then kept the advantage intact with a sharp save before half-time, denying Dylan Easton an equaliser.

But Raith Rovers turned the game around in the final 15 minutes. Josh Mullin converted a penalty after Declan Gallacher’s foul, putting the home side ahead. Innes Cameron added a second shortly after, leaving Ross County chasing the game. Despite James Scott’s late stoppage-time goal, it wasn’t enough to change the outcome. The defeat sealed County’s fate, as Morton’s result elsewhere failed to go their way. Poor defending throughout the match compounded their struggles, while Airdrieonians claimed the final play-off spot instead.

Ross County will now compete in League One next season after their relegation from the Championship. Raith Rovers’ late goals and County’s defensive frailties proved decisive in a match that ended their hopes of survival.
