Maryland honors 243 fallen first responders in emotional tribute

Maryland paid tribute to 243 fallen first responders during the 41st annual Fallen Heroes Day ceremony. Held at Dulaney Valley Memorial Gardens The ceremony recognised 12 Marylanders who died this year while protecting their communities. Their names were added to the state’s memorial, ensuring they will never be forgotten. Many of those honoured were in their 40s and 50s, their lives cut short by occupational illnesses or accidents.

One of the fallen was Rodney Pitts III, a 31-year-old firefighter killed in 2023 while battling a blaze in Northwest Baltimore. His mother, Monica Gant, attended the ceremony, joining other grieving families who received support and solace during the event. In total, 128 law enforcement officers and 115 firefighters were remembered for their sacrifice. The ceremony served as a reminder of the risks first responders face daily to keep others safe. The gathering also provided a moment of reflection for those left behind. Families, officials, and colleagues stood together to honour the legacy of the fallen heroes.

The names of these 243 first responders are now permanently etched into Maryland’s memory. Their sacrifice was acknowledged by state leaders and the community they served. The ceremony ensured their bravery and dedication will be remembered for years to come.
