Sanremo Sewage Emergency Sparks Investment Plan Discussion
An emergency meeting was held at the Sanremo Town Hall to address ongoing issues with the city's sewage network. Mayor Alessandro Mager, Councilors Massimo Donzella and Ester Moscato, along with key officials from Rivieracqua and the local authority, participated in the discussion.
Recent water samples have led to swimming bans in two popular tourist spots - Lungomare Italo Calvino and Corso Trento e Trieste - due to sewage-related contamination. Even though beach operators in Corso Trento e Trieste successfully appealed for the lifting of an earlier ban, a new setback has been reported.
Mayor Mager and Councilors expressed concern over the city's sewage infrastructure, emphasizing the need for prompt attention and a comprehensive investment plan. The meeting was productive, with Rivieracqua's top management demonstrating a commitment to addressing Sanremo's sewage issues and implementing immediate and long-term improvement measures.
The geographical characteristics of Sanremo, being crisscrossed by numerous streams and watercourses, necessitate careful and quick management. Rivieracqua pledged to strengthen the operational team in charge of monitoring watercourses, enhancing on-site presence for improved emergency situation management.
Additionally, the activation of remote control for 32 lifting stations was planned to ensure prompt responses during equipment malfunctions. The Municipal Council requested a permanent technical table with monthly meetings to closely monitor the progress of activities.
