Philippine students experience South Korea's culture in landmark exchange trip

A delegation from Abellana National School in the Philippines recently completed a cultural and educational exchange in South Korea. The trip, held from May 12 to 15, marked the first in-person meeting since the program began virtually in 2021. Four students and two teachers took part in the visit, organised in partnership with Chupungnyeong Middle School. The exchange program, endorsed by the Department of Education in Central Visayas and South Korea’s Ministry of Education, aimed to broaden students’ academic and global perspectives. Participants included Lovelyn G. Feliciano, Efriem P. Torrefiel, Eiyannah Khryss E. Yap, Nell Camryn C. Gicain, Mary Jol S. Pracio, and Melissa Rose Dominique A. Pocong.

During their stay, the group explored key historical and cultural sites. In Busan, they visited Gamcheon Culture Village, Gwangalli Beach, and The Bay 101. They also toured Gyeongju’s historic areas, including Bulguksa Temple and the Gyeongju National Museum. A visit to the No Gun Ri Peace Park provided insights into the Korean War. The exchange featured cultural activities as well. Filipino and Korean students collaborated on traditional Korean music and performed a Filipino folk dance. Feliciano later expressed gratitude to all supporters who made the program possible.

The 2026 exchange built on years of virtual collaboration between the two schools. It offered students hands-on learning in history, culture, and international cooperation. The program’s success reflects ongoing efforts to strengthen educational ties between the Philippines and South Korea.
