Peter Klisa's In the Shadow of the Ruins Unveils Post-War Berlin's Dark Underbelly

Munich (dpa) — Food shortages, black-market racketeering, and gang crime in war-torn Berlin take center stage in Peter Klisa's historical novel In the Shadow of the Ruins.

At its heart is Captain Matthew Wallet, transferred to Berlin just before the currency reform. His mission: to crack down on professional smugglers and gangs controlling the city's thriving black market. What begins as routine police work soon spirals into a deadly threat.

Wallet uncovers not only rampant corruption within the ranks of the U.S. military police but also discovers that many officers are deeply entangled in organized crime. Worse still, he stumbles upon a former Wehrmacht elite unit plotting a audacious heist on an unprecedented scale.

With In the Shadow of the Ruins, Peter Klisa delivers a gripping, visceral thriller. Characters, plot, pacing, and historical backdrop mesh seamlessly, creating a compelling and flawlessly crafted narrative.
