Kurt Russell's The Thing Statue Hits Auction Block Today

Looking for something to spruce up your front room? Propstore has a life-size statue of Kurt Russell from The Thing up for auction today.

Propstore's auction has reached its final day, but there are still plenty of goodies for film fans across the globe. The auction has hundreds of props from films, as well as things like screenplays and costumes.

One of those goodies is this life-size statue of Kurt Russell in John Carpenter's classic The Thing. This nearly 6ft statue was created for Monsterpalooza 2017. It comes mounted on a bloodied wooden display and also includes the character's shotgun and a gas lamp. The Propstore listing doesn't mention if the gas lamp works so you could create mood lighting with it in your front room.

The statue has been created to match the scene where Russell's R.J. MacReady is investigating the Norwegian base with Dr. Copper, played by Richard Dysart. The statue was created by Howard S. Studios, which was founded by Howard Senft, a renowned sculptor who has created a fair few statues and sculptures like this.

The statue is estimated to cost a minimum of $3,000 but the price tag could reach up to $6,000 as The Thing fans fight over having MacReady in their homes. It's a lot of money, but then again, can you really put a price to having a young Kurt Russell holding a shotgun in your home?

Today's action will start at 4pm UK time and there are still plenty of other items available as well from a variety of classic movies and franchises. You could bid for the melted Darth Vader helmet from Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Spock's ears from Star Trek: The Motion Picture or Predator's left hand from Predator 2.

Unfortunately, the bidding has ended for the life-size rhino from which Jim Carrey emerged from in Ace Ventura: When Nature Calls. Hammer price: just under $60,000. It's proof that valuable bits of cinema history can come in many forms.
