Omsk's Blinov Sports and Concert Complex Reopens After Major Renovation

The Blinov Sports and Concert Complex in Omsk has officially reopened following a large-scale reconstruction, marking the return of major hockey to the arena after more than a decade. The first game in the renovated venue took place as part of the VHL playoffs, with Omskie Krylia facing off against Chelyabinsk's Chelmet.

The complex was fully upgraded in under a year, with the reconstruction carried out by Avangard Hockey Club as part of Gazprom Neft's Native Towns social investment program. For two decades, the company has supported hockey development in Omsk Oblast, helping build a network of outdoor rinks, operating the Avangard Academy, and overseeing the construction of the G-Drive Arena. Gazprom Neft also assists in organizing youth, amateur, and professional tournaments.

After its reopening, the Blinov Complex is set to become a hub for sports and cultural events. In addition to hockey matches, the venue will host home games for Omichka women's volleyball team, competitions of all levels, concerts, and exhibitions. On May 29, it will welcome the national IT Games.

Alexander Dyukov, Chairman of Gazprom Neft's Management Board, called the reopening a landmark event for Omsk residents. Built 40 years ago as a prime example of Soviet modernist architecture, the complex retained its historic elements—mosaic panels and marble floors—during the renovation. Experts also restored the arena's unique acoustics. "I'd like to remind everyone that this is a sports and concert complex," Dyukov noted. "Even in Soviet times, it had exceptional acoustics. Now, with modern technology, the venue is once again equipped to host not just hockey games, but also high-level concerts and events."

Dyukov expressed gratitude to the Omsk regional government, Avangard HC, Gazprombank, Sberbank, and the builders and restaurateurs involved in the arena's revival.

The Blinov Complex served as Avangard's home arena from 1987 to 2007 and later hosted Omichka volleyball matches. Since 2016, the facility had remained unused.
