Oklahoma mourns DJ Black, a radio legend and community icon

Michael Joseph Cobb, widely known as DJ Black, has passed away after 25 years as a beloved voice on Oklahoma radio. His shows on Power 103.5 and OKC Heart and Soul 92.1 & 1140 made him a staple in the community. A Celebration of Life will honour his memory next month. DJ Black became a familiar name through his Saturday morning programme, The Blast with Classic Hip Hop and R&B, on Power 103.5. Beyond radio, he was an active member of the Darkside Ryders Motorcycle Club, with chapters in Oklahoma City and Tulsa.

A public celebration will take place on Saturday, June 6, from noon to 6:00 p.m. at the Route 66 Park Pavilion in Yukon. The event is open to all who wish to attend or share memories, with organisers asking for RSVPs via a dedicated Facebook event. Guests are encouraged to bring their own drinks, though glass bottles will not be permitted. DJ Black leaves behind his parents, Rudy and Gayle Cobb, his wife Kylee Miner, and his siblings, Tamika and Leslie Cobb. His children—Samara Cobb, Kalista Clay, Ashton Fournier, and Jared Miner—along with four grandchildren, Jaylee, Jetta, Jamison, and Eden, also survive him.

The June 6 gathering will give friends, family, and listeners a chance to remember DJ Black’s impact on local radio and the community. His decades-long career and involvement with the Darkside Ryders Motorcycle Club shaped his legacy in Oklahoma.
