Neheim's city centre braces for six-week traffic shutdown
Neheim’s city centre is entering the final phase of a major construction project. The work will bring temporary closures, affecting both traffic and pedestrian access for several weeks. The project began in November 2023 with utility and road improvements in Bremers Park. Over time, the work expanded as far as the cul-de-sac at Stembergstraße 18a–20c. Meanwhile, progress on Lange Wende Street is now almost finished.
Initial preparations for the cul-de-sac will start on Tuesday, May 12. However, additional utility work and road upgrades in that area have been delayed. From Monday, May 18, the entire stretch will close to all traffic, including public transport and private vehicles. Residents will also be unable to enter or exit the area during this period.
The full construction process is set to last around six weeks. Once complete, Engelbertplatz will fully reopen to traffic and pedestrians. The six-week closure will disrupt movement in and out of the area. After completion, Engelbertplatz will return to normal use, with improved roads and utilities. The project marks the end of a long-term upgrade in Neheim’s city centre.
