NATO secures €200M tank ammunition deal to bolster Allied defenses

NATO has placed a EUR 200 million order for 120mm tank ammunition through its procurement agency, as part of a wider effort to rebuild Allied stockpiles and strengthen deterrence, the NATO Support and Procurement Agency said.

The contract, awarded to Rheinmetall under a multinational framework, supports several Allies in replenishing critical Land Battle Decisive Munition stocks, according to the agency.

The order was placed through the Ammunition Support Partnership, which allows participating nations to pool demand and procure ammunition collectively, speeding up acquisition and reducing costs while sending a clear signal to industry, the agency stated.

"We need more defence production. We need quantity and quality. And we need it quickly," NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte said following a Defence Ministers' meeting in February.

NSPA said that by consolidating multinational demand, Allies are encouraging industry to expand production capacity and strengthen supply chains, with the partnership designed to deliver both short-term stock replenishment and longer-term industrial resilience.

The agreement builds on a series of framework contracts signed in 2025 covering the full range of 120mm ammunition for major NATO tank platforms, allowing countries to place orders more rapidly through a centralised system.

"Through the Ammunition Support Partnership, Allies are sending a multi-year, multi-national demand signal to industry," the NSPA General Manager said, adding that the approach is intended to ensure forces have the ammunition needed to maintain readiness.
