Mumbai mayor's surprise raid dismantles drug den and illegal parking hubs
Mayor Ritu Tawde carried out a surprise inspection in Ghatkopar’s N Ward after residents raised concerns over illegal parking, encroachments, and illicit activities. The visit led to immediate action, including the demolition of a shop allegedly linked to drug sales.
During the operation, officials also addressed long-standing issues like pigeon feeding near Shantipath’s police ground and unauthorised parking on Sudha Park Road.
The inspection began on Sudha Park Road, where residents had repeatedly complained about vehicles blocking footpaths and causing obstructions. Tawde ordered strict penalties for illegally parked cars and directed police to tow away offending vehicles. An autorickshaw driver was caught drinking while on duty and handed over to authorities.
Nearby, a shop operating under an STD/PCO licence was found allegedly selling narcotics. Officials immediately ordered its demolition. The mayor instructed the area to be cleared, cleaned, and beautified to prevent further misuse. Residents had also highlighted hygiene concerns due to pigeons being fed near the police ground at Shantipath. Tawde responded by ordering measures to make the area pigeon-free and improve its appearance. Police further detained individuals found consuming alcohol inside autorickshaws during the crackdown.
The mayor’s intervention resulted in the removal of illegal structures, penalties for unauthorised parking, and steps to address hygiene issues. Authorities will continue monitoring the area to prevent further violations and ensure compliance with civic regulations.
