Magadan tightens security ahead of May holiday celebrations
Under the chairmanship of Magadan Mayor Larisa Polikanova, a meeting of the city's Anti-Terrorism Commission was held. Representatives from municipal agencies and law enforcement took part in the discussion, according to the Magadan mayor's press service.
The main focus was on security measures and public order during the May holidays.
The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs' Magadan City Directorate will deploy the necessary personnel and resources. To prevent terrorist attacks, locations hosting public celebrations and their surrounding areas will be inspected for explosives using service dogs.
To deter crime, including terrorism, patrol units and local police officers will conduct checks of apartment building entrances, attics, and basements for dangerous objects.
Police also plan a series of measures targeting individuals under preventive supervision, minors, foreign nationals, and those subject to court-ordered restrictions—such as bans on attending mass events.
Educational, cultural, and sports institutions in the city have also implemented security protocols. Heads of relevant agencies reported that staff at all organizations have received necessary briefings, duty schedules have been established, and surveillance systems, fire alarms, and emergency buttons have been tested.
"It is crucial to take all possible precautions in advance to prevent emergencies and remain vigilant during the holidays," emphasized Larisa Polikanova.
Ahead of the celebrations, Magadan traditionally tests its public address systems, while rescue teams will be on standby at mass gathering sites.
Participants also discussed anti-terrorism security for fuel and energy infrastructure, children's summer camps, and counterterrorism efforts within migrant communities.
