Magadan airfares drop as airlines expand summer flight schedules
Magadan, May 1 – Measures taken by regional authorities, the Ministry of Transport, and airlines to increase flight frequencies and deploy higher-capacity aircraft have eased pressure on Magadan's air travel market, yielding tangible results: tickets have become more affordable. Over the past month, average fares on key routes—Magadan–Moscow and Magadan–Khabarovsk—have fallen, while prices on the Magadan–Novosibirsk route have at least held steady, despite the approaching peak summer travel season, reports the Public Chamber of Magadan Oblast.
Russia Airlines (an Aeroflot subsidiary) currently operates five weekly flights on the route, with plans to increase that number to seven by next month. The average fare now stands at 33,000 rubles—equivalent to about three grams of Kolyma gold—reflecting a flat-rate, no-frills ticket. While not available every day, round-trip fares at this base rate can still be found. Just a month ago, the average round-trip price was 57,600 rubles.
On the Khabarovsk route, Aurora Airlines has expanded its schedule for the first time in years, now offering nine weekly flights. The average round-trip fare has dropped by a third over the past month, settling at 32,800 rubles (for non-refundable, carry-on-only tickets).
S7 Airlines currently runs seven weekly flights to Novosibirsk, with plans to increase that to ten by June 8. Despite this route traditionally being one of the pricier options, the average round-trip fare remains at 49,900 rubles (again, for the most basic non-refundable, no-check-in-baggage tickets).
As part of its ongoing monitoring, the Public Chamber of Magadan Oblast tracks airfares on the Moscow and Khabarovsk routes (round-trip) once a month, recording the lowest available prices for direct flights one week and one month in advance—timeframes that roughly correspond to business and leisure travel patterns. A weighted average fare is then calculated based on each carrier's flight frequency. The Chamber has been monitoring the Moscow and Khabarovsk routes since 2015, with Novosibirsk added to the list in summer 2025.
