Local sports club fights €10,000 water bill to avoid shutdown

SV Wendessen is fighting for its survival after receiving an unexpected water bill of €10,000. The club, now facing a severe financial shortfall, has launched an urgent online fundraising campaign to cover the costs. Without the funds, training operations and daily expenses could soon halt entirely. The crisis began when the club was ordered to pay €10,000 for unusually high water consumption. Chairman Hendrik Weber suspects a hidden leak near the grounds may be responsible. The sudden expense has left the club struggling to meet other financial obligations, including back payments and higher installment demands.

An online campaign was quickly set up to raise €4,500 as an initial target. Within just 18 hours, supporters had already pledged over half that amount. By Monday afternoon, donations had surpassed €2,500. The response has come from across the community. Club members, athletes from nearby sports associations, and local residents have all contributed. The funds will help close the immediate financing gap, keep training sessions running, and secure the club’s future.

The fundraising effort has already made significant progress, but the club still needs more support to cover the full €10,000 shortfall. If successful, the campaign will ensure SV Wendessen can continue its operations and avoid shutting down its training programme.
