Krasnoyarsk ends 225-day heating season amid extreme temperature swings
Krasnoyarsk’s heating season has officially ended after lasting 225 days. Mayor Sergei Eremyev announced the shutdown on May 6, following five consecutive days of average temperatures above +13°C. The decision comes after residents faced both extreme heat and freezing conditions in their homes over the past months. The heating season began in September 2025 and ran until early May 2026, making it one of the longest in recent years. Last spring, the system remained active until May 16—the longest stretch in five years.
Residents had raised repeated concerns about indoor temperatures. Many reported unbearable heat during the winter, while over 350 households experienced freezing conditions during a sudden cold snap. These issues prompted the mayor to order maintenance crews to inspect and repair the system before next season. With the heat now turned off, crews will begin preparing for the next winter. The mayor’s instructions include fixing problems highlighted during the summer’s unexpected cold weather.
The shutdown marks the start of maintenance work across the city. Repairs will focus on the flaws exposed by this year’s temperature swings. Residents can expect updates as preparations for the next heating season get underway.
