Komsomolsk-on-Amur's Beloved Ice Rink Closes as Spring Arrives

The public ice rink on the city's waterfront has shut down for the season, local news agency Khabarovsk Krai Today reports.

Meteorologists forecast a sharp rise in daytime temperatures in the near future in the "City of Youth," making it impossible to maintain the ice in good condition.

"At this time, it is no longer feasible to keep the rink's ice surface in satisfactory condition. Given the circumstances and to ensure public safety, we have been forced to close the rink until next season," said German Veledeyev, first deputy director of the Komsomolsk-on-Amur Amur River Embankment, a state-run institution.

He also noted that the rink had become a true highlight of the winter waterfront, drawing dozens of residents daily to skate with family and friends. The venue had grown into a magnet for fans of active recreation.
