Kazakhstan launches its largest domestically built naval ship
Kazakhstan has unveiled its largest domestically built ship, marking a significant step for the country’s naval capabilities. Named after the prominent statesman Dinmukhamed Kunayev, the vessel was launched at the Zenit Shipyard in Uralsk before setting off toward the Caspian Sea. The launch ceremony drew key officials, including West Kazakhstan Region Akim Nariman Turegaliyev and representatives from the defence sector. The ship, the 37th vessel produced by the Zenith shipbuilding factory, now heads to Aktau for final technical procedures, including mast installation.
Measuring 51 metres in length and 9.5 metres in width, the vessel has a displacement of 720 tons. It can reach speeds of up to 16 knots and is built to endure rough sea conditions, including storms up to force 8. Designed for multifunctional logistical support, it will assist the Kazakh Navy in various operations. A crew of around 30 personnel will operate the ship, which features onboard facilities for comfortable long-term missions. Once final checks are completed, it will enter full service as a key asset for the navy.
The Dinmukhamed Kunayev ship strengthens Kazakhstan’s maritime fleet with its size, speed, and durability. After completing final preparations in Aktau, it will begin active duty, supporting naval logistics in the Caspian region.
