Kazakh National Guardsman Wins Silver at World Fencing Championships in Astana

Private Ruslan Kurbakov of Kazakhstan's National Guard, part of the Interior Ministry, has claimed a silver medal at the World Fencing Championships in Astana, reports Liter.kz.

The Kazakh épée fencer showcased exceptional skill and determination, advancing confidently through the tournament. In a tense quarterfinal bout, Kurbakov defeated two-time Olympic champion Koki Kano of Japan with a narrow 9–8 victory.

In the semifinals, the Kazakh athlete continued his strong performance, overcoming Hungary's Dávid Nagy 15–13 to secure his place in the final. There, he faced Roman Svichkar of Ukraine in a hard-fought, high-stakes match. Though Kurbakov fought fiercely, his opponent prevailed with a slim 15–12 lead.

With this result, Private Ruslan Kurbakov earned silver at the World Championships—a significant achievement for Kazakh sport and a testament to the high level of training among servicemembers of Kazakhstan's National Guard under the Interior Ministry.
