Greece battles severe flooding as heavy rains disrupt travel and infrastructure

Weather conditions through most of Greece are set to improve Monday, following heavy rains that caused some flooding near Larissa and on several islands.

The coastal area of Agiokambos near Larissa suffered flooding following Sunday's rain, while problems were also reported on the islands of Santorini and Lemnos in the Aegean Sea, and Kefallonia in the Ionian. On the eastern Aegean island of Chios, rains washed a huge boulder down a hillside and onto a road.

Some rainstorms are expected in Thrace and the eastern Aegean Monday, but overall the weather is forecast to improve. In the Greater Athens region the weather is expected to be dry, with temperatures of up to 14 degrees Celsius.
