GCash launches DoubleSafe and stricter fraud controls to combat scams

GCash, the Philippines’ top finance superapp, has rolled out new security features to protect users from fraud. The updates include stricter verification steps and tools to monitor suspicious activity. These changes come as the platform cracks down on scams like quishing—QR code phishing schemes. One of the key additions is DoubleSafe, which requires a selfie scan for high-risk actions. This extra layer of verification aims to prevent unauthorised access. Another feature, Account Secure, restricts logins to a single device at a time, reducing the risk of account takeovers.

Users can now review their transaction history in detail, making it easier to spot and report discrepancies. For immediate help, Gigi, the app’s chat agent, handles common account issues. More complex problems, such as unauthorised transactions, can be escalated to live agent support.

The GCash Help Center acts as a central hub for all user concerns, offering in-app guides for quick solutions. The company also urges users to report suspicious activity directly through official channels. Recently, GCash blocked over 4,900 fraudulent merchants tied to quishing scams. These measures strengthen security for millions of GCash users. The app’s focus on fraud prevention includes stricter controls and direct support options. Users are reminded to stay vigilant and use the platform’s official tools for reporting scams.
