From 42-Foot Fall to Hockey Rink: Jonny Landis's Miraculous Recovery

Jonny Landis counts himself lucky to be alive after a devastating fall in 2019. Doctors once told his family he would not survive the accident. Now, he skates with a hockey group for survivors and looks ahead to a future helping others. In 2019, Landis fell 42 feet from a balcony, fracturing his skull over 160 times. He spent 60 days in a coma and months more in hospital and rehab. His recovery was long, but he eventually graduated from the University of Colorado in 2023—seven years after the accident.

Today, he plays hockey every Wednesday morning at the Apex Center in Arvada. The Hockey Heals group, part of Dawg Nation Hockey, brings together people who have survived life-changing events. Landis now interns with the organisation and values the chance to skate again. His long-term ambition is to sell the same medical devices that saved his life. He believes his survival was no accident and that he has a greater purpose to fulfil.

Landis continues to rebuild his life, balancing hockey, his internship, and plans for a career in medical sales. His journey from near-fatal injuries to graduation and the ice rink shows how far he has come. The support of groups like Hockey Heals remains a key part of his recovery.
