A horn virtuoso and pop guitar prodigies stole the show. Meet the next generation of classical and contemporary music stars.

Fabian Kempkes and other young stars shine at Jugend musiziert NRW 2024

Three young talents from Dormagen Music School qualified for the 63rd state competition Jugend musiziert NRW in February and competed this week in Dortmund. Fabian Kempkes won first prize (23 points) in his age group with his horn performance as part of a quintet. Jonas Damian Stuppy secured second prize in the Pop Guitar category with 21 points, accompanied by Greta Reiß on guitar, who also earned second prize with 20 points.

The trio had already excelled at the Rhein-Kreis Neuss regional competition in Meerbusch in February, scoring 25 and 23 points, respectively. Other notable placements included Luisa Dreßler (vocal) and Bruno Gallina (Pop Guitar) with 24 points each, Nele Zsagar (Pop Guitar), Fine Boland (Pop Guitar), and Greta Wang (solo piano) with 22 points each, Melina-Jiamo Zhou (solo piano) and Jinlin Wang (solo piano) with 20 points each, Lilly-Siyn Wang (solo piano) with 19 points, and Leticia Braun (solo piano) with 18 points.

Additionally, siblings Greta and Jinlin Wang from the music school's talent development program took part in the Lions Club Music Competition at the Cologne University of Music in February. Greta Wang won first prize, while her brother Jinlin secured second. Both were later invited to perform at the winners' concert in Eschweiler's council chamber.
