EVRAZ KGOK transforms Kachkanar with €22.5B in green tech and community growth
The delegation examined the latest generation of open-pit mining equipment, including 240-ton haul trucks, NP-1 haulage units, and excavators with bucket capacities ranging from 12 to 20 cubic meters. Over the past five years, EVRAZ KGOK has invested 22.5 billion rubles in modernizing production, purchasing new equipment, and upgrading its fleet.
Conference participants were introduced to the plant's unified production control center, part of the Geometallurgy digital initiative, which integrates dispatch services with high-precision excavator positioning systems and smart haul truck fleet management. The project has enabled the plant to stabilize ore quality metrics at every stage of production.
EVRAZ KGOK's modernization efforts also prioritize environmental protection. The plant has completed construction of a new tailings storage facility using thickened tailings technology, which reduces water consumption and transport volumes. Other environmental measures include upgrading air purification systems across all production stages, installing automated emission monitoring sensors, stocking local water bodies with fish fry, compensatory reforestation, and urban greening projects.
During a visit to the plant's museum and exhibition complex, guests learned about EVRAZ's role in the life of Kachkanar. With the company's support, the city has gained three sports complexes—including an ice palace—a roller-ski track, a newly equipped hospital, and residential housing for doctors and teachers. Over the past nine years, EVRAZ has contributed over 3.6 billion rubles in taxes to Kachkanar's development.
