Berga-Wünschendorf, Wolfersdorf district – On Monday evening at around 9:50 p.m., a 66-year-old driver veered off the road in a curve near the fire station while driving his Suzuki car. The apparent cause was icy road conditions. The vehicle struck a telephone pole, which snapped about one meter from the base and was left leaning. Though the cables remained intact, the car was no longer drivable. No one was injured, and the driver fled the scene on foot.

When police arrived, the driver was still not at the scene and had not reported the accident to authorities.

Later, a man came forward and admitted responsibility for the crash. The estimated property damage amounts to a high four-figure sum. Investigations have been launched for leaving the scene of an accident and disrupting telecommunications infrastructure. (DL)
