Denver flights grounded as FAA imposes weather-related halt
A ground stop for flights heading to Denver International Airport was put in place on Tuesday afternoon. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced the measure just after 4 p.m. due to poor weather conditions. The FAA’s decision came as low cloud cover, or 'ceilings,' created unsafe flying conditions. The halt affects departures from six air traffic control centres: ZLA, ZLC, ZDV, ZKC, ZAB, and ZMP. All flights to Denver from these locations remain grounded until further notice.
The stop is currently set to last until 5:15 p.m. However, aviation officials estimate there is less than a 30% chance of an extension beyond that time. Passengers travelling to Denver should check with their airlines for updates. The FAA will reassess conditions before deciding whether to lift the restrictions as scheduled. Delays and cancellations may still occur even after the stop is removed.
