Cuemanco dock renovation nears completion ahead of FIFA World Cup

Renovation work at Cuemanco dock in Mexico City is now in full swing. The project forms part of wider upgrades in Xochimilco, costing 182 million pesos. Access to the dock remains restricted while construction continues nearby. The Mexico City government announced the renovation as one of its key projects before the FIFA World Cup. On October 1, 2025, three tender notices for dock rehabilitation were officially published.

The upgrades include a new food market with 74 stalls, along with improvements to 700 metres of the causeway linking Periférico to a protected natural area. Vendors have been temporarily moved to makeshift stands beside the worksite to keep businesses running. Mayor Clara Brugada recently confirmed that the docks are nearly finished. The project aims to boost tourism, which many locals rely on for their livelihoods.

Once complete, the renovated Cuemanco dock will feature modern facilities and better access routes. The 182 million peso investment is expected to support both tourism and local traders. Officials have not yet announced a final completion date.
