Colorado snowstorm shuts down schools and CSU's iconic Oval
A heavy snowstorm has forced multiple school closures across Colorado on Wednesday. The storm, bringing wet and thick snow, has also led to the temporary shutdown of The Oval at Colorado State University (CSU). Authorities are taking precautions as the weather disrupts daily routines.
The storm began affecting the region on Tuesday, with forecasts warning of heavy, wet snow continuing into Wednesday. CSU acted early, announcing The Oval’s closure from 6 p.m. on Tuesday for further assessment. The university cited concerns over the weight of snow on tree branches.
Poudre School District was among the first to respond. Initially, only mountain schools were set to close on Wednesday. Later, the cancellation extended to the entire district. Other affected institutions include Briggsdale School RE 10-J, Cherry Hills Christian School, Estes Park Schools, Thompson School District, and Lotus School for Excellence. Limon Public Schools opted for a delayed start rather than a full closure. The decision reflects varying approaches as districts assess local conditions.
The snowstorm has already caused widespread closures, with The Oval remaining shut for further evaluation. Schools across Colorado are adjusting schedules to ensure safety. Officials will continue monitoring conditions as the storm progresses.
