"Jan Ullrich Recalls Head-On Collision with Car: "Plowed Straight into Me""
Car Accident Account: "Collided with me head-on" (Ullrich's account of the crash) - Collision leads to Ullrich describing it as a direct impact to the forehead.
Jan Ullrich, the ex-champion of the Tour de France, has broken his silence about his recent cycling accident. The 51-year-old veteran was unfortunately hit by a car last Friday, resulting in a fractured collarbone, considerable bruising, and road rash.
"I'm dealing with some pain," Ullrich shared in his podcast "Ulle & Rick" alongside former cyclist Rick Zabel. "All I wanted was a quick spin to loosen up my legs. I was cruising along the main road near my home when a driver attempted a turn and, blind to my presence, barrels into me head-on on the left side," Ullrich reminisced.
Currently nursing his injuries in a hospital bed in Freiburg, Ullrich shared, "It's painful, no doubt about it. But I'm managing, and I've got one wound drain left after having four yesterday." Despite his condition, he remains determined to attend the "Jan Ullrich Cycling Festival" this weekend in Bad Dürrheim, albeit without mounting his bike.
