China and US leaders unite at New York trade summit for green and health deals
A major economic conference between China and the US took place in New York on May 4, 2026. The event brought together around 120 political and business leaders to explore trade opportunities. Green industries, health sectors, and bilateral cooperation were at the heart of the discussions. The China (Shaanxi)-US Economic and Trade Matchmaking Conference was jointly organised by the Shaanxi Council for the Promotion of International Trade and New Jersey’s Council for Trade and Investment Promotion. Attendees included officials, entrepreneurs, and industry experts from both countries.
The agenda covered plant extraction, green food production, and the broader health sector. Presentations, one-on-one meetings, and exhibitions formed part of the programme. Zhou Mi, a senior research fellow at the Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, highlighted the importance of these exchanges for China-US relations. Zhou noted that such collaborations could deepen ties by leveraging each side’s strengths. He also pointed to a long history of cooperation at the provincial and state levels, with increased activity in recent months. The conference aimed to strengthen connections between local governments and businesses.
The event provided a platform for direct discussions between Chinese and US representatives. Focus areas like green technology and health industries reflect shared priorities. Organisers hope these efforts will lead to concrete partnerships and expanded trade links.
