Bremen's Transport Authority Launches Major Infrastructure Overhaul with Osterdeich Renovation
Bremen kicks off €6.9M transport upgrades with 18 infrastructure projects
The Office for Roads and Traffic is kicking off Bremen's traffic route renovation push with the reinforcement of the Osterdeich embankment between Sielwall and Tiefer/Altenwall. This year, a total of 18 projects across all city districts will commence, with a combined budget of approximately €6.9 million.
On March 24, the Senate approved a comprehensive renovation program for Bremen's transport infrastructure. Over the next two years, an additional €15 million will be invested in renewing roads, bike paths, and sidewalks. The funding is provided by the federal government under the State and Municipal Infrastructure Financing Act (Länder-und-Kommunal-Infrastrukturfinanzierungsgesetz, LuKIFG).
Road Closures and Detours
Work will begin after Easter: From April 7 to an estimated April 17, the asphalt surface layer of Osterdeich between Sielwall and Tiefer/Altenwall will be resurfaced. The 11-day project will require several partial lane closures in the specified area, though the intersections at "Osterdeich/Sielwall" and "Osterdeich/Tiefer/Altenwall," as well as the bike and pedestrian paths, will remain open. The following detours will be in place:
- Construction phases 1 & 2 (inbound, U1):Sielwall → Ostertorsteinweg/Am Wall → Altenwall → Tiefer
- Construction phase 3 (outbound, U4):Tiefer → Altenwall → Am Wall/Ostertorsteinweg → Sielwall
