Belarus rolls out sweeping financial and utility changes on June 1, 2026
Belarus will introduce a wave of changes on June 1, 2026, affecting everything from household bills to banking rules. The updates include higher utility costs, new currency notes, and stricter card policies to prevent fraud. Several deadlines and financial adjustments will also take effect on the same day. Electricity and thermal energy prices will both rise by 7.3% from June 1. Households will pay 0.0487 rubles per kilowatt-hour for power, while thermal energy costs will reach 29.2224 rubles per gigacalorie. These increases mark the second phase of a planned tariff adjustment.
The National Bank of Belarus will release a new 200-ruble note into circulation on the same date. Meanwhile, the refinancing rate will drop to 9.25% per annum, potentially easing borrowing costs. Belarusbank is tightening card rules to fight fraud. From June 1, customers will be limited to one card per type. Two weeks later, on June 15, monthly transaction limits will also be introduced. June 1 is also the payment deadline for individuals who filed their 2025 income tax returns. Additionally, ninth-grade students across the country will sit their final exams between June 1 and June 10.
The changes will bring higher living costs for many households, alongside new financial regulations. Taxpayers and students must also meet key deadlines in early June. The adjustments reflect broader economic policies and anti-fraud measures in the country.
