30 sloths died at Florida warehouse after being left in the cold

A Florida warehouse where sloths were kept has faced scrutiny after around 30 of the animals died from cold and illness in recent years. The facility, now called Sloth World Inc., has been described by its owner as a business operation. Concerns were first raised by a member of the public in Van Nuys, who wrote a letter highlighting the issue.

The deaths occurred after sloths were left without proper heating on a particularly cold night. Investigations later revealed that, in both 2024 and 2025, animals arrived at the warehouse either dead or severely underweight.

An inspection carried out in 2026 found that the facility had improved conditions, with adequate heat and water supplies in place. The letter that brought attention to the problem was written by Ronna Siegel, a resident of Van Nuys.

The warehouse, now operating under the name Sloth World Inc., continues to function as a commercial enterprise. While earlier inspections reported poor conditions, the 2026 review confirmed that heating and water provisions met required standards. The deaths of the sloths remain a documented incident in the facility’s history.
