Zverev's Struggles Continue as Medvedev Wins in Beijing

Alexander Zverev, currently ranked 18th, faced Daniil Medvedev in the quarterfinals of the ATP tournament in Beijing. Despite a challenging season and lower back pain, Zverev aimed to turn his form around.

The match lasted over an hour and a half, ending 3:6, 3:6 in Medvedev's favour. Zverev's fifth consecutive loss to the Russian highlighted his ongoing struggles. He admitted uncertainty about how much his lower back pain influenced his performance.

Zverev's frustration was evident, leading him to throw his racket twice during the match. He was warned for this behaviour in the second set. His forehand let him down, with too many errors costing him dearly. This loss follows recent defeats, including a third-round exit at the 2025 US Open against Félix Auger-Aliassime.

Zverev will next compete in Shanghai, where he has been granted a first-round bye. Despite his recent setbacks, including lower back pain and poor form, he remains a formidable opponent. His focus will now shift to recovering and preparing for the upcoming tournament.
